Overview

Systems Overview is a TreeView panel shown as a sidebar which is put onto the 'Home' and all built-in dashboards. This panel shows current states of selected agent's systems and allows easy navigation between the statistics available for systems, XVMs, and applications. It's often easier to navigate using the Systems Overview tree than it might be by selecting a dashboard and manually configuring available variables.

At a glance, you can see active/online components are white while inactive/offline components are greyed out.

Each node in the tree view represents an element of each system known to the active agent:

Order of systems is determined by their state. Systems are ordered as follows:

  • Online
  • Partial
  • Unknown
  • Closed
  • Failed
  • Error

If system is in error state, node icons will be red. Additional exclamation mark icon will appear. Hovering it will display latest error system encountered.

In case there are many systems, filter function is available to display only relevant set. Gear icon allows user to filter visible system. Currenly, it contains two filters.

There is a toggle button for hiding or showing internal Neeve systems, XVMs and applications. When the "internal" link is unchecked, internal systems will not be visible.

Filter section also contains search box to find node by type and name.

If you are managing a lot of systems, it might be helpful to know that each non-leaf (application) node in the tree can be collapsed or expanded at will by clicking on a node. Systems node is always expanded to allow user to see systems all the time.

If you would like to actually view the statistics associated with a particular component, you can view the associated dashboards by clicking on the little bar chart icon next to each component:

Try navigating around a little to get a sense of how to use the Systems Overview tree. When you're ready, refer to the Grafana "Getting Started" guide and the rest of the documentation in this wiki.

More Information

The following sections discuss the Systems Overview in more detail. You can click on any of the headings below to learn more.

Adding the Systems Overview

Rather than implementing the Systems Overview as a fixed part of Lumino's UI, the Systems Overview is implemented as a special type of panel that can be docked to the left of the page. If this panel is removed from the home page or not added to a custom dashboard, then you won't be able to see systems states, perform scripts execution or navigate to other dashboards on that page. In order to add System Overview panel back after it was removed or add it to a new custom dashboard you must have das

Uploading XARs

The Systems Overview allows users that are not configured for "Passive Monitoring" to upload new XAR files (X Application Archives). X Application archives bundle application binaries, configuration, resources, and deployment scripts into a bundle that Lumino can deploy. The set of applications and XVMs included in a XAR file are referred to as a 'System' compromised of applications that share a common release and deployment lifecycle.
